| WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE 3 TYPES OF STORAGE UNITS? All Scotland Rack products adjust on 2" centers and are fabricated from 16 gauge pre-coated steel. SE and SR units can be ordered partially pre-assembled for a nominal fee, if desired. 1. Scotland Rack Steel Edge Shelving (SE) consists of a steel framing system that requires no nuts, bolts or clips to assemble. The decking (shelf) material is industrial grade MDF (medium density fiberboard) material. The SE product is available in two styles, standard and heavy duty (for storing mostly heavy locomotives). And in sizes from 12" deep to 36" deep and 18" wide to 60" wide. This product is by far the best one for storing No.1 gauge scale rolling stock. SE units come complete with footpads and post top protectors to save your floors and protect your models. 2. Scotland Rack Bulk Rack (SR) consists of heavier duty components and does require a few nuts and bolts and clips to assemble. The decking (shelf) material is also industrial grade MDF material. SR utilizes higher capacity beams and under-deck supports for larger and heavier loads. SR is also more expensive than SE. 3. Scotland Rack Rivet-Lite (RL) The decking (shelf) material is also industrial grade MDF material. The only tool necessary for installation is a mallet. As with SE, there are no nuts, bolts or clips required. An important difference is that RL units use an angle post for support and "double-rivet" beams top and bottom for lateral stability. RL units are available in the same sizes as SE units. 4. A fourth version: Decks with Flangeways Only. These are available to retro-fit existing shelving and rivet units with the BVRR Specialties decks equipped with flangeways. If you already have a rivet type unit, simply let us know the inside dimensions and we'll do the rest. You can use our decks in lieu of the cheap particle board that is usually supplied with such equipment or simply lay our deck on top of an existing steel shelf... or just use your imagination! 5. What, you want to store old Lionel Standard Gauge tinplate? No Problem! And no extra charge! We can provide decks with flangeways for "Std Gauge", "O" Gauge, or almost any size you may require. Just call or email for a quote. Tip: If using BVRR Specialties deck in damp or wet locations, it is a good idea to "seal" the MDF with urethane to prevent excess water absorption. Also, it's a good idea when storing live steam engines that will drip water on the deck. |
